Activities & Attractions on Funen

Faaborg City

In Faaborg about 39 minutes by car southwest of Broholm Castle you will find, among other things, Øhavsmuseet, Arresten, Syd Fyenske Veteranjernbane and The Svanninge Hills.

Øhavsmuseet is the first museum in Denmark to make it all about you. No objects and long texts. You will have experiences and see how you react to nature's various stimuli. You will also learn about the Stone Age, the South Funen Archipelago and about sacrifices in the Iron Age. Read more here.

In Arresten you get very close to both history and the present in a Danish town jail. The tour goes through the prison, the cells and the courtroom, among other things. Read more here.

The Syd Fyenske Veteranjernbane is an association that drives veteran trains on the railway between Faaborg city and Korinth city. Their trains represent Danish railway history from the 1950s. Read more here.

The Svanninge Hills, together with Sollerup Forrest, is the largest contiguous forest and nature area on Funen. It covers approx. 1000 hectares. The South Funen Alps are one of the most visited nature areas on Funen. Read more here.

Odense City

In Odense about 39 minutes by car north of Broholm Castle there are many things to do. A few to mention are Odense Zoo, Odense Aafart which goes through the former, Hans Christian Andersen's House, The Funen Village and if you are want a good shopping trip: Rosengårdcentret and last but not least Funky Monkey Park Odense.

In Odense Zoo you get really close. Take a walk among kangaroos or watch the red panda climb just above your heads. In the rainforest you can experience jumping monkeys and stand face to face with manatees and the world's largest snake. In the Antarctic cold fascinating penguins await. Read more here.

Visit The Funen Village - on the country, in the middle of the city. The open-air museum offers a living Funen past. The museum's village environment consists of authentic houses and farms that, together with livestock, gardens and fields, tell about daily life as it was lived on Funen in the 19th century. Almost right next to the center is Funky Monkey Park Odense. The climbing park offers experiences for people of all ages from 3 years and up. With its 7 different courses, 85 challenges and 16 cable cars, the park has wild, fun and challenging climbing courses at all levels. In total, the tracks extend over several kilometers between the treetops. There are courses from ½ meters height to 15 meters height. Read more here.

Nørre Broby City

In Nørre Broby about 44 minutes by car northwest of Broholm Castle you will find the De Japanske Haver (Japanese Gardens). Discover seven different styles of Japanese garden culture up close. They are built according to unique Japanese traditions. The styles are the tea, view, walking, temple, courtyard, and meditation garden as well as the garden of life. Read more here.

Tommerup City

In Tommerup about 47 minutes by car northwest of Broholm Castle you will find Denmark's Birds Zoo. It is a zoo with a focus on animal welfare in birds and poultry. Today it is 5 acres and with a handicap-friendly trail system of over 2 km. The trail system takes you around 800 birds from all over the world. Read more here.

Kerteminde City

In Kerteminde about 42 minutes by car north of Broholm Castle is Fjord & Bælt located. Here you can experience when guinea pigs and seals are beeing trained, and visit the center's underwater tunnel, where you follow the marine mammals as they whiz past you out in the sea. Explore the vast world of Danish sea creatures in their new interactive exhibition with full-size whales on a 12-meter long video wall. The kids love the small pools where they can touch and get up close and personal with small sea creatures. Read more here.

Middelfart City

In Middelfart about 1 hour drive by car west of Broholm Castle is the Bridge Walking Lillebælt. Get a unique experience and walk on a bridge at a height of 60 meters. The trip takes 2 hours incl. safety instruction and changing. You must be at a minimum height of 140 cm. Read more here.
